Bio from The Material's tumblr

About The Material – A Biography

Hailing from Southern California, The Material has established themselves as one of the West Coast’s most dedicated up-and-comers. With their recent full length, What We Are (produced by Brian Grider), having been released in January of 2011, the group has begun building a strong fan base nationwide.
Before the release of What We Are, The Material joined up with Every Avenue, There For Tomorrow, Sing It Loud, and The Secret Handshake for the 2010 Motel 6 “Rock Yourself To Sleep Tour.” Since the start of the year, the band has toured non-stop, playing with the likes of Ivoryline on the “As Tall As Texas” tour, headlining the PictureHealing Winter Tour, and even stampeding through Austin with a week full of showcases at this past spring’s South By Southwest festival. As the year continues they’ll be joining up with the likes of New Years Day and Goodnight Sunrise for a summer tour throughout the Midwest and West Coast while making stops on The Vans Warped Tour and Milwaukee’s Summerfest as one of this year’s “Emerging Artists.”
As they continue to make in-roads, it is obvious that they have made an impact as press spots in MF Magazine have claimed that “The Material is more than up-an-coming…they’re smashing” (March 2011) and feature articles about the group have appeared in Beatweek Magazine (May 2011), Black Velvet Magazine (April 2011), and Substream Music Press (March 2011). In addition, original compositions by the band have made an imprint on TV shows like MTV Australia’s Freshwater Blue, MTV’s The Hills, and WB’s Sorority Forever. The result has been impressive as the band’s fans have voted The Material to perform live on MTV’s Dew Circuit Breakout out of a field of 4,000 other bands. Additionally, their fans have purchased over 300,000 downloads to date of their songs “Moving To Seattle” and “Stay Here Forever” on the video game ROCK BAND.
While it has been great for the band to receive the support they have worked hard for, the members continue to stick to their roots as a positive message band, encouraging their fans and others to continue reaching for their dreams just as they have. They represent themselves as good role models to their fans by working with multiple causes while on and off the road, to make the greatest positive impact they can, both musically and as individuals.
